Minglewoods first opened it's doors in 1995, and is a Maritime-style Canadian Pub located in the heart of Ottawa's Tourist district, the Byward Market, just two blocks from Parliament Hill. Minglewoods is located at 14 Waller Street , in a two-storey heritage stone building. Built in 1866, rough cut stone walls, cathedral ceilings, and Canadiana décor provide an atmosphere rich in history and hospitality.
Our 2-storey Tap & Grill is a Pub and Eatery, Sports Lounge and Dance Club that tries to do everything, and actually does. Like The Man says, "It's all good at the Woods."
Our crowd is a mixed bag...Tourists, Business Lunches, and After-Work Crowd during the day, then Students and the 20-something crowd come out at night to play Pool, watch sports on the Big Screens, and hit the Dance Floor, which gets going at 10 pm every night of the week. Music is Top 40, and Dance/Rock Mix.
The atmosphere is very laid back, kind of like a living room, with people just hanging out. Monday is our Bar Staff Night with a big "regular' crowd (good for meeting people who know the City). We boast huge food portions at great prices, and our selection of 28 Local, Domestic, and Imported Draughts are among the lowest priced in Ottawa. Minglewoods is open 7 days a week from 11 AM until 2 AM nightly. Meet you at the 'Woods!

My friend recommended this place for watching hockey. Myself and a couple other people never been so was excited to go. My friend called in the the afternoon to see if the upstairs would be open and they said yes @ 6pm. When we got there our server said no it won't be open till 9:30pm. Ok no big deal! Our server was too busy flirting and not coming by our table, annoying cuz I wanted my beer! The washrooms were disgusting, I almost threw up literally. Toilets clogged, no paper, puke ect...Took 3 people to complain and then they finally cleaned it. For the food, well we asked if we order 2 lbs of wings if we can get 2 different flavors, nope not allowed. Got my wings and again almost threw up. I pulled a long hair out of my mouth, it was stuck inside the wing under the sauce! My friend order the burger, it was red! Oh I forgot to mention our new server we got when we had to move tables, she was good and polite. When we got our bill they didn't even give us a discount!!! Our server said to us "oh we can't do that" So, needless to say my friend who recommended this place was embarrassed and none of us will return!

The food is incredible at Minglewoods, The Red room is even better, there are no lines, cheap drinks and a great atmosphere. But really those cooks know what they are doing!

It wasn't bad at all. i don't know what people are talking about in terms of bartenders and washrooms but everything was definitively on par with most places in Ottawa. Besides you can't beat $3.91 beer. Would go again.

I have been at Minglewoods and their new spot (on Rideau attached through the kitchen) the Red Room for lunch. Both places were terrible. At Minglewoods, we asked the waitress several times for a fork and knife and she just didn't bring it. Seriously. She kept saying 'yes I'll get it' or 'don't worry I'll get it'. Eventually we ate with our hands. Red Room is worse. Two steak sandwiches, both ordered medium rare, both came WELL done; her response when we pointed it out - a shrug. A SHRUG! Lunch for two with no dessert and no liquor (a coke and an iced tea) was $47.50. Bad food, terrible service.

This place is great if you want to get loaded, and dance. The other people at the bar are generally pretty friendly and want to meet new people. But watch out for the bouncers, they love to kick people out for no reason. So if you are super drunk just stay upstairs or away from those stairs until you are ready to leave!

My friends and i were served by a male bartender upstiars who poured our drinks with his back to us, and when we got the drinks we realized they had no alcohol in them. I sent mine back and asked for it to be made into a double, there was no difference in taste and a 3 dollar difference in price. The manager was useless, did nothing and ended up creating a highly unprofessional scene because we had spoken to the rest of our party about our dissatisfaction. She yelled "I dont like when people talk shit about me.. so you can leave" as the bouncers took our drinks and pushed us out the door.
Overall i was extremly dissatisfied, I would never reccomend any go there if your looking for a good night.

It's ok if you like cheap drinks and can ignore what's happening around you. It becomes a high-school meat market as the night progresses, which is funny to watch but becomes very annoying after you get enough prosti-tots asking if you want to buy them a drink. NO I DO NOT! Call me when you hit puberty kid.
Also worth mentioning is the fact that there the seemingly availibitly to play pool until the place gets packed and you can barely move.

Atmosphere sucks as it turns into a nightclub for tweens. Don't go here if you are 22+, you'll be the weird old guy. Also, the kids here get shitfaced and puke in the bar a lot.

Overall, this is one of the best bars to come to if you're looking for a nice cold beer, without the typical club atmosphere; at least before 10pm anyway.
Beer is cheap, half-price apps on Thursdays, can't get much better than that. Shots and shooters are average price though.
I'd definately recommend it!
